The new guide “Let’s change route” booklet

Citizen for Air - ship pollution

Citizens For Air and the members of its Italian network “Let the Mediterranean breathe”, made up by committees and NGOs striving to achieve the reduction of shipping emissions in Italian ports and in the Mediterranean, have delivered to port authorities and stakeholders in Italian port cities the new guide “Let’s change route”, a booklet indicating the critical issues that should be addressed in ports and maritime and shipping policies to improve air quality in ports, as well as the solutions that are already available to curb air pollutants from shipping and only await to be implemented. The guidebook has been prepared – and is being distributed along with postcards highlighting the risks of exposure to air emissions from ships for children. For more info please see here.

Did you know that air pollution is already the fourth cause of death in the world

Cittadini per l’aria-june24

Did you know that air pollution is already the fourth cause of death in the world and that 99% of the population breathes contaminated air? Exposure to pollution starts from pregnancy and because girls and children are more vulnerable, as the impact of pollution on their health can last a lifetime, it is urgent to take measures to limit exposure now. Cittadini per l’aria are calling for schools to ensure they are an environment which is safe, particularly the routes to and from the school building, and all playground areas. “Let the Mediterranean breathe” led by Cittadini per l’aria

Cittadini per I'Aria air pollution

Citizens and committees from Italian port cities, united in the campaign and network “Let the Mediterranean breathe” led by Cittadini per l’aria in the effort to shed light on the serious problem of emissions from large ships, have demonstrated against air pollution from shipping with banners in 9 port cities on the European Maritime Day, asking for more controls on emissions from ships and more measures and actions at EU and national level to achieve that shipping does not conflict with the air quality and the environment of port cities. A campaign to inform the public on the impact of shipping, through postcards virtually picturing children as filters of shipping fumes and an oncoming guide indicating critical topics and solutions for clean air in port cities will be distributed widely to raise attention on this topic.
