TWO OCEANS AQUARIUM FOUNDATION
The Two Oceans Aquarium Foundation’s mission is to inform and inspire all to connect with and protect our ocean and the natural world through conservation, awareness, research, and education projects.
Established in 2018, the Two Oceans Aquarium Foundation works diligently towards a brighter future for our ocean and its inhabitants. These inhabitants include five species of endangered sea turtles. The Foundation’s Turtle Conservation Centre rescues, rehabilitates, and releases hundreds of stranded turtles back into the open ocean every year. In the wild, only one or two out of every 1,000 turtle hatchlings survive to adulthood, and these figures are worsening by the day. It can take up to 25 years for a turtle to reach breeding age – over two decades in which predation, pollution, and poaching threaten their daily lives.
From tiny loggerhead turtle hatchlings to injured or entangled adult Green turtles, the Turtle Conservation Centre works round the clock to contribute to the recovery of turtle numbers worldwide. This is achieved through world-class medical care, exceptional rehabilitative work, and a team of compassionate staff. The ultimate goal for every turtle is release.
The direct impact that rehabilitating and releasing a turtle has on species survival is significant, which is why the Turtle Conservation Centre invests significant time and resources in each of these turtles’ journey back to the wild. Each turtle released is a chance that they will go on to produce the next generation of turtles.
The Turtle Conservation Centre is devoted to upping the odds for these precious turtles and making a dent in survival rates. They are committed to a future where all species of sea turtles swim wild and free in a safe ocean.
